DANIEL ENGARDIO

"HAVING THE DREAM TO OWN AND PERSISTENCE TO ACHIEVE THAT GOAL!"

Daniel came to RT&T with just over five years of experience, as both a Lease Driver and Trainer at a large company. The lease was one that could never really be paid off, so it was time to look elsewhere. He wanted to own a truck and accomplish more in his driving career. Daniel came across an RT&T driver in his home area and gave us a call.

In talking to RT&T Recruiting, Daniel appreciated that Shane was honest and realistic in what to expect. He explained both good and bad, instead of just saying what a driver wants to hear. There were no surprises starting with RT&T and the program offers a solid contract, affordable payments, and the ultimate goal of the driver owning the truck - which is much different than prior places Daniel had inquired or worked with.

The beginning hurdles Daniel mentioned were adapting to the new truck in some rough winter weather, and a few issues with the truck, which were taken care of quickly. He says everyone in the company is supportive and Operations keeps the truck moving, without micro-managing the driver. When asked what factors led to being able to pay off the truck, the answer was "ramen noodles!" He then followed with "having the dream to own and persistence to achieve that goal. I chose to prioritize running over home time - stayed out about 3mos. to start."

Daniel's advice to drivers wanting to lease is to do your research and learn as much as possible. You have to be determined and know there will be hard times, but those will pass. He stressed saving money is a priority in order to expand your business. Daniel had entered into a 4-year lease, then decided to use some prior investments to pay off the truck in about 4 months. He will continue to have an account for repairs/maintenance and says, "this is a must - truck upkeep is expensive and having a safety net in the thousands is best." Daniel talked about his experience with RT&T Repair, saying the shop is very competent and that good, honest mechanics are hard to find.

As for his plans now that the truck is paid off, Daniel looks forward to a vacation and time with family. He will put priority back on home time and eventually wants to stay closer to his home area.

RT&T would like to wish Daniel continued success as an Owner Operator!
